Scotts expecting big things from new presses

Scott Print officially launched its two new Komori Lithrone presses at a Japanese-themed celebration at its Perth CBD headquarters, expecting them to power business growth and expansion.

The award-winning WA powerhouse installed the Komori A1 GL840-P HUV eight-colour long perfector and A2 LS629 HUV six-colour plus coater earlier this year and says they will lead to better quality and value-adding for its customers.

Sumo wrestling in giant padded costumes was a highlight of the launch party and WA premier Colin Barnett also put in an appearance, starting up the A2 machine.

Sales and marketing general manager Tim Scott, #19 on the 2014 ProPrint Power 50, says the presses should come into their own and really start to add value for the business in 2015.

He says customers have already been reaping the benefits of the HUV instant drying inks, leading to faster finishing and turnaround, for some months now.

The new presses offer drip-off varnish, a more economical alternative to spot UV, which Scott says gives a superior finish and more accurate registration.

Scott says the new year will see business growth and expansion into new areas with the two machines.

The offset investment complements the company’s existing digital suite, which includes both Indigo and Xerox technology.

Ferrostaal ANZ general manager Rayne Simpson says this is the biggest purchase of its type in many years, and the HUV versions with their instant drying inks now make up 75 per cent of Komori’s sales.

“These feature laden presses are the highest spec Komori GL Series machines, and provide printers with synchronous plate changing systems which change all eight plates in less than 45 seconds,” he says.

“KHS-AI, Komori’s short makeready system which gets to complete make ready in just 20 sheets, and Komori’s PQA-S monitoring system which controls print density and checks every sheet print quality.

“Scott Print has a reputation as a printer of quality and progress, the new Komori presses will enable the company to build on this reputation.”
