SOS follows Geon Indigo purchases with Fuji Xerox inkjet press

Director Michael Schulz said the Fuji Xerox 2800 was “proven productivity” that had already been successfully used by several other Australian and New Zealand companies.

“Its quality level is good and it can print on a variety of stocks. The Fuji Xerox support is also very good,” he told ProPrint.

Schulz said SOS had been able to lure back work from overseas – and that the Sydney-based group needed the latest technology to keep costs down and stop the jobs heading back offshore.

“Our volume in digital colour is growing. The demand for digital colour at inkjet pricing is definitely increasing,” he said.

“We’ve been able to migrate some work from overseas, so we do need to produce it in the most cost-effective way, and inkjet is the way a lot of digital colour is being produced.”

SOS recently bought two of Geon’s former HP Indigo 7500s to keep up with growing digital colour volumes.

The new Fuji Xerox will add another manufacturer to the group’s digital line-up, which also includes two Ricoh Pro C901s, a Kodak Prosper 1000 XL, Xeikon 5000 with coater and Océ VarioPrint 6250 with saddlestitcher.

Schulz said it was important to have a range of technologies, but that SOS did not believe in diversity for diversity’s sake.

“We’re not intending to have every manufacturer in our digital print centre. We’re intending to get the best offering at the time, whether that’s from Océ or Fuji Xerox or HP,” he told ProPrint.

The 124-staff group will also bring in a Fuji Xerox Nuvera 288 at about the same time as the 2800. The Nuvera will replace two Kodak Digimaster 125 black-and-white printers, said Schulz.
