Tennyson reduces footprint and costs with SGP certification

Tennyson’s marketing and environmental co-ordinator Ali Simpson (pictured, left) told ProPrint that the company implemented “a lot of new recycling streams” to achieve certification. The company now recycles everything it uses to produce printed materials, including paper, cardboard, plates and vinyl.

“There’s a major cultural change, educating everyone in how to reduce waste with things like packing and segregating waste,” she said.

“When you have a set program, people are more likely to follow it.”

Simpson added that the company had also enjoyed a reduction in costs through measures such as turning computers off at the power socket overnight.

“We’ve seen a dramatic drop in energy usage,” she said.

She added that the company now only has to get its skip collected once a week due to the reduction in waste.

The whole process took the company around four months, from beginning to implement the new sustainable processes to receiving certification. The company said it sought certification following widespread customer demand for greener printing.

Simpson said the company was now working towards Level 3 certification.

Based in the suburb of Crestmead, the Tennyson Group consists of Tennyson Printery, The Screenery, Acro Vinyl Arts, Art-X-tra, and Tuff Tabs.
