Dr David Cooke takes top job at Konica Minolta

Cooke is the first Australian to hold the top job at Konica Minolta. He will step into the role on May 1, succeeding current managing director Hiro Kaji who has announced that he is returning to Japan.

The appointment of Dr Cooke, who has been the executive general manager at Konica Minolta for the past seven years, is seen as a new step for the Japan-based company as it asserts its position in an industry undergoing far reaching change.

Cooke is well known for his environmental work with Konica Minolta. He ahs published several academic papers on the subject, and was a winner of the prestigious The Global Social Impact Award for Global Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI) / Emerald Publishing London in 2011.

This award is bestowed for excellence in academic publishing for research that has the greatest potential to positively influence society.

Other papers include Building Social Capital through Corporate Social Investment, published through Southern Cross University in 2008. This was a research dissertation which studied the motivations of profit-making corporations to support the not-for-profit sector, and how to enhance this engagement process.

Cooke says, “While our business will continue to embrace the digital economy with integrated hardware and software solutions, my broader vision for Konica Minolta is to drive sustainability by promoting behavioural change within the company and contributing to a greater focus across the industry as a whole.

“I would like Konica Minolta to be known as a company that truly cares about its customers and the community in which it operates. I believe we can achieve this for our clients by implementing strategies that will help them to reduce their carbon footprint, meet their sustainability targets and deliver greater productivity and efficiency practices to their organisations.

“Our staff will be a key part of our continued success and I will be focusing on creating a more constructive culture by implementing a flatter management structure, encouraging greater collaboration across the organisation, and fostering a deeper appreciation for social responsibility,” continued Dr Cooke.

Konica Minolta Business Solutions Australia announced today that Dr David Cooke has been appointed to the role of Managing Director, Australia, making him the first Australian to be entrusted with this role.

Konica Minolta is a relatively new player in the commercial print space, it entered the business eight years ago at PacPrint 2005, and has since become a major player in the digital print sector particularly through its bizhub Press range of printers.
