Print Bound to triple capacity in Geon move

Print Bound says it will massively expand print production and take its first leap into wide format when it moves into the former Geon plant in Melbourne this September.

OCA Group chief executive Naresh Gulati says once in its new home the subsidiary print company will triple its offset capacity and double digital production with the installation of new equipment at the huge 7000sqm facility.

“We will be selling on quality and innovation, not price. The price wars gripping the market are not good for our industry and we simply will not do jobs we cannot make a profit on," he says.

The company has bought a 3.2m wide format printer for its first ever point of sale work, and promises innovative offerings using new technology.

The relocation will consolidate the Print Bound and BPO Print operations, which Gulati merged after buying Print Bound in March, and create a significant but undetermined number of jobs.

“We are in the process of hiring new staff, especially in the new areas of the business, and a few have started already,” he says.

The production expansion will make Print Bound a full-service printer with offset, digital and wide format capability as well as design, warehousing and distribution.

Gulati says the company will do work for other printers but it will not be a focus of the business and it will not set itself up as a trade printer.

“We will work for the betterment of the industry,” he says.

He says the move to the old Geon site in Mount Waverley will begin with the old and new digital kit in early September and everything will be complete within that month.

Gulati says he wants to help drive print innovation in Australia and make it a destination for printers around the world to study and get ideas from.

“Too often Australian printers have to go overseas to learn how to improve their business,” he says.

“We have great skills and great manpower in this great country and there is no reason why we can’t be on the world map and be a leader in efficiency and innovation,” he says.
