Vale Qld print industry identity Simon Rowbottom

Brisbane print industry identity Simon Rowbottom passed away at his home in December.

Simon’s career in the local industry has spanned over four decades.  He was an active member of the print community having been a familiar face at key industry events over the years. He was a keen supporter of the Lithographic Institute of Australia and the PIAA in its previous form.

Simon’s consistent colourful attire was an extension of his personality. He was a true friend and supporter of so many in the industry. He was fun, passionate and a great role model and mentor to many apprentices and people starting out into the industry. He was well-respected by his peers, staff and clients.

Simon started in the industry in 1979 as a Costing Clerk/Estimator for Simpson Halligan. His experience in estimation and production progressed at William Brooks and Printcraft. He then became Production Manager for a number of print companies including InPrint and Platypus Graphics, after which he became co-owner and production manager of JT Press.

For the past 12 years, Simon has been the Production Manager at Salt Design, working alongside his life partner to evolve the existing graphic design studio into a digital and wide format print business – The Print Village.

Simon’s farewell service and celebration of life will be held at 4.00pm (3.30pm for 4.00pm start) next Friday 14th January at George Hartnett Funerals, 270 Kelvin Grove Road, Kelvin Grove.

The service will be streamed online and recorded for those who cannot attend in person.

  1. So very sad to hear of Simons passing.
I worked in the industry in Brisbane in the late 80’s early 90’s and was heavily involved with JPE/PEA where our paths crossed regularly and I always found Simon to be a true gentleman..
My heart goes out to Dear Daile his loving life partner and family ..
    Sending much love and strength
    RIP dear Simon
